WOODLAND PARK ZOO
New day. New zoo.
The Situation
Since 1899, Woodland Park Zoo has served as an urban oasis, gathering generations of people to enjoy the natural world. Today, Woodland Park Zoo attracts over a million visitors from Washington and beyond—inspiring them to make conservation a priority in their lives.
To excite, engage and invite zoo-goers this year, we were asked to develop a campaign that featured the newest attractions and remind them of some of the classics they know and love.
The Solution
Centered on the idea that the Woodland Park Zoo is a living, breathing space, we created a campaign that says no matter how often you visit, it’s never the same zoo twice. To put it simply, “New day. New zoo.”
The art direction was inspired by Charley Harper’s “minimal realism” illustration style. It allowed us to stay true to each subject while celebrating their diversity of shape, color and pattern. We partnered with Toronto-based animation studio Crush to bring the illustrations to life through dynamic, multi-morphing animations.

Zoosic Radio
Each visit to the Woodland Park Zoo is different, and each day has its own rhythm. To bring this idea to life, we partnered with Seattle dj and mashup artist Rudy Willingham to make an experimental radio spot. We spent a day at the zoo recording animal noises around the park to compose a funky tune that sounded like a dance party deep in the jungle.
Cheetah Meetah
To announce the arrival of Cheetah's at the Woodland Park Zoo, we placed “Cheetah Meetah's” in and around the zoo that let kids compare their quickness to the furry speedsters. The installation was loved and became a main attraction during the campaign.
